TITLE: Getting the most out of computational models of hippocampal interneurons
ABSTRACT: The large variety and diversity of inhibitory cells in our brains makes it challenging to understand brain dynamics and function in general. In particular, using mathematical, computational models to gain insight is challenged by the high-dimensional and nonlinear character of the models. To tackle this, over the years, we have used a strategy of careful and tight interfacing between model development, goals and rationale with experiment. In this workshop talk, I will describe our work involving the development and use of two types of hippocampal interneurons in the context of theta rhythms – the oriens-lacunosum/moleculare cell and the interneuron-specific 3 cell.
